Description
The use of calcium hydroxide in animal bedding and shelters has a sanitizing effect, reducing the number of pathogens and viruses. It is easy to apply and is recommended for the prevention or treatment of many diseases.
The sanitizing effect results from the product's high pH, as well as the oxides' ability to raise the temperature during application, leading to rapid and effective drying and disinfection. They are also used in stables, as a paint, with the same hygiene objective.
The properties of lime and its derivatives can also be used in the treatment of manure generated by livestock farms. They eliminate pathogens that the manure may contain and preserve its nutrients and bioavailability, improve its workability and reduce the odor it gives off, thus allowing its long-term storage.
