Soil stabilization – Roads
Calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide play a fundamental role in soil and material rehabilitation as well as in road and railway construction, making them a versatile and effective option.
Description
THE lime-stabilized soils can be used to construct embankments, road bases and sub-bases, subgrade layers for railways and surfaces in general.
The geotechnical properties of the land are immediately improved. thanks to the addition of lime (reduction of the plasticity index, increase in load-bearing capacity (CBR), improvement of soil compaction) thanks to the pozzolanic reactions which occur spontaneously, naturally, causing the development of its bearing capacity.
For the purpose of stabilizing the ground, the addition of lime produces the following three effects:
1. DRYING
It reacts immediately with humidity existing in the soil, and dries it out, due to the hydration reaction thus caused and the evaporation resulting from the heat created during the exothermic reaction.
2. FLOCULATION
Calcium oxide allows for to break the laminar structure of the clay, causing it to lose its ability to retain water and giving it a granular structure that is easier to compact.
3. STABILIZATION
Pozzolanic reactions occurring between the calcium cation of quicklime and the silica and aluminum of the soil, calcium silicates and aluminates are formed which give it strength and stability.
«"Stabilizing the soil with lime allows the use of materials already present on the route, avoiding management costs and the need to replace them with borrowed materials."»
Before beginning the stabilization process, it is recommended to take a soil sample and perform a quick and simple analysis to determine the exact percentage of quicklime or calcium hydroxide that should be used. To perform the test, Calcinor makes the central laboratory available to it, to which it is possible to send the field sample.
Calcinor has extensive experience and qualified staff capable of providing advice on all aspects that the client may consider necessary, before or during the execution of the work.
THE four fundamental steps Therefore, the following are necessary for proper stabilization:
- GROUND DISASTER
- PRODUCT INSTALLATION
- CORRECT MIX FOR THE GROUND
- GROUND COMPRESSION
Products
Product Name
CALCIUM HYDROXIDE (Ca(OH)2), SLIME
Description
We offer exclusive ranges of calcium hydroxides for specific applications.
Calcium hydroxide or slaked lime and its specific derivative products are obtained through a calcium oxide hydration process:
Heat is generated by the hydration reaction of quicklime, which, in many applications, promotes the drying and sanitizing process of the materials to be treated. Products based on calcium hydroxide are used in most application sectors, from construction to food processing.
The various hydration technologies used by Calcinor and R&D activities allow us to offer specific products.
